OTHER ANIMAL feat. Jim Black
DR – USA – GERMANY
Peter Meyer – git
Bernhard Meyer – b
Wanja Slavin – sax
Jim Black – dr

Peter & Bernhard Meyer, best known for their work with “Melt Trio”, present their new band with Wanja Slavin (saxophone) and Jim Black (drums).
Over the last years the Meyer Brothers ( on guitar and bass) invented a sound without comparison, a sound that overrode all established concepts of jazz improvisation, alternative rock, modern classical music and ambient, but even surpassed all known syntheses, avantgardisms and overlappings. A sound that is far away from any crossover and that is pathbreaking in the european music landscape.

With Jim Black, one of the most influential drummers of our time joins the brothers.
Over the last two decades Jim Black is at the forefront of a new generation of musicians bringing jazz into the 21st century. With his limitless technique and futuristic concepts, with his relentless feeling of joy and invention, he enthralled and inspired audiences worldwide.
Echo-Winning saxophone volcano Wanja Slavin brings along a rarely heard energy of rough beauty into the band. His playing reflects all the energie, creativity and love of John Coltrane or Ornette Coleman. Beyond this his virtuosity allows him a totally new approach by reaching unhearded soundscapes of Neue Musik and electronic music.
The four musician recorded their first album last year. It will be released on Traumton Records in January 2018.

Free jazz is an approach to jazz music that was first developed in the 1950s and 1960s as musicians attempted to alter, extend, or break down jazz convention, often by discarding fixed chord changes or tempos. Though the music of free jazz composers varied widely, a common feature was dissatisfaction with the limitations of bebop, hard bop, and modal jazz that had developed in the 1940s and 1950s. Often described as avant-garde, free jazz has also been described as an attempt to return jazz to its primitive, often religious, roots and emphasis on collective improvisation.
